A Christmas Poem
By Mollie Ford
Mollie Ford was one of Miss Margaret Shaw’s ‘Lone’ Girl Guides who, having left school at the statutory age of 14 had gone into domestic service, but wished to continue being a Guide. Miss Shaw distributed a hand-written monthly magazine to all the girls and Mollie’s contribution was featured in the December 1932 edition.
What do you lack? What do you lack?
Old Father Christmas is here with his sack.
Bringing his toys and sweet chocolate kisses,
Dolls and dolls’ houses for good little misses,
Boats of all sorts from a brig to a wherry,
Bats, balls and engines to make the boys merry,
Soft woolly pets for each nursery darling,
Cats never scratching and dogs never snarling,
And last, what is better than toys or than gold,
True love and kind wishes for young and for old.
