Events for the Autumn & Winter 2006
Sunday 3rd September Final Parish Boundary Walk
This final leg of the Boundary Walk, which started in 2003, will take
us from Lower Lodge to Highbuilding. The walk will last about 2 hours
and will again be ably led by Judith Turner. Please meet at the Crossfield
Car Park at 1.45pm, where there should be sufficient transport taking
everyone to the starting point.
Sunday 24th September – Summer Barbeque & Live Jazz
Band
This is new event for the Society and this year replaces the traditional
Christmas Party. Make the most of this different format as the societies’
main social event of the year. Note the BBQ venue has changed and will
now be held at Vanlands, which is the first house on the left as you drive
up Van Common Road. Time – 12.30pm.
A selection of BBQ delicacies plus salads, desserts and coffee will be
included in the price of £15 per head. Background music is by the
excellent Liphook based Super Swing Jazz Quartet. Bring your own bottle.
Non-members very welcome, so feel free to bring friends or relatives.
However for catering purposes, we need to know numbers by 17th September,
so please bring Elsie Waitt on via the Society's
email to book your ticket.
Thursday 26th October – Film about the Dornier Crash on
Friday’s Hill by Adam Koronka
Join us in the Village Hall at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm) to see the film
Adam has made about the plane crash which put Fernhurst in the headlines.
Thursday 23rd November AGM, followed by ‘Return to Everest’
– a talk and slide show by George Band
George Band was the youngest member of the first successful Everest Expedition
in 1953 led by John Hunt when Hillary and Tenzing reached the summit.
George has been on many climbing expeditions and continues to climb modestly
today. He has proved a popular lecturer and has written books about Everest
and the Alpine club. In 1993, six of the original Everest team revisited
the area and this forms the basis for George’s talk.
Our Chairman, Robin Barnes, can provide further details for all events
and activities. Please call him on 654088 if you have any questions or
suggestions.
