CRICKET

In August 1909 a new interest was given to Fernhurst Cricket by the gift of a challenge cup by Mr and Mrs King of Ashurst. The cup was played for annually by the members of Fernhurst Cricket Club and employees at Ashurst, augmented by friends to make the teams. The cup had to be won outright for three years to become the absolute property of either team. The winning team held the cup for a year. The first match resulted in a win for Ashurst by four wickets, thus the captain of Ashurst placed the cup in safe keeping.
